Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1992:
Obszar rozsiedlenia tego gatunku obejmuje zachodnią i środkową część Europy, na wschód dociera do krajów wokół Morza Kaspijskiego aż po Ural, notowany ponadto z Algierii i Iraku. W Polsce ogłodek Kirscha jest rzadko spotykanym kornikiem, wykazywanym dotychczas z terenów nizinnych w siedmiu krainach. Żeruje głównie na gałęziach, niekiedy na strzałach przeważnie wiązu, rzadziej osiki, białodrzewia, jesionu i czereśni. Samica drąży w korze podłużny chodnik macierzysty długości 0,5-2,5 cm, szerokości około 1 mm, od otworu wejściowego zwykle w górę. Chodniki larwalne nieliczne, krótkie, o nieregularnym przebiegu, niekiedy biegnące ukośnie w stosunku do włókien drewna. Żerowiska drążą początkowo w korze, później w bielu.
