Pospolity gatunek europejski, nie wykazany jeszcze z Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii, Grecji i Bułgarii; w Skandynawii znany tylko z obszarów południowych. Notowany ponadto z Grecji, Armenii, Azerbejdżanu i Iranu. W Polsce dość rzadko spotykany, znany z nielicznych stanowisk rozproszonych w różnych częściach kraju. Występuje na niżu i w niższych położeniach górskich. Postacie dojrzałe po przezimowaniu w glebie pojawiają się z początkiem maja na klonie zwyczajnym — Acer platanoides L. i klonie polnym — A. campestre L., na których przebywają głównie na kwiatach. Larwy odbywają rozwój w spłaszczonych owocach, w których całkowicie wyżerają nasiona. Młode imagines pojawiają się w sierpniu i przechodzą na zimowanie do gleby pod opadłe listowie wokół drzew.
