Gatunek śródziemnomorski, wyspowo sięgający na północ do południowej części środkowej Europy, notowany również z południowej Syberii. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadko spotykany, wykazany tylko jeden raz przed 70 laty. Z uwagi na rozmieszczenie ogólne wzmianki o występowaniu na Pobrzeżu Bałtyku i w Prusach są niewiarygodne. Warunki ekologiczne słabo poznane, w Złotym Potoku znaleziony „19 VII w pniaku porosłym grzybami” (Lgocki 1908).
