Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w niemal całej Europie i na Syberii z wyjątkiem ich części północnych; wykazywany poza tym z Afryki Północnej, Kazachstanu i Dalekiego Wschodu, na ogół spotykany sporadycznie i pojedynczo. W Polsce jest znany z rozproszonych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju, przy czym dane z wielu krain opierają się na znaleziskach z ubiegłego stulecia. Larwy odbywają rozwój w grubych, nie pozbawionych kory, biało butwiejących pniach oraz leżących na ziemi kłodach buków, dębów, lip, topoli i brzóz. Przepoczwarczenie następuje w sierpniu-wrześniu. Pojaw postaci dojrzałych zaczyna się w maju i trwa do lipca. Chrząszcze są poławiane pod odstającą korą, na drzewach i krzewach liściastych oraz w czasie lotu w dni pogodne i słoneczne. Kopulację i składanie jaj obserwowano w końcu maja i w czerwcu.
