Gatunek rozmieszczony w środkowej i północnej części Europy, w Fennoskandii sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. W Polsce znany z pojedynczych stanowisk tylko w pięciu krainach, a ostatnio odkryty także w Bieszczadach. Spotykany przeważnie w lecie pod wysychającymi ekskrementami, przy soku wyciekającym z drzew i w nawozie.
