Szeroko rozprzestrzeniony gatunek, występujący w ciepłych strefach na różnych kontynentach; w klimacie umiarkowanym w szklarniach. Szkodnik roślin. Polifag; w Polsce stwierdzony na Aechmea Ruitz et Par. (na trzech gatunkach) oraz na Hovea Becc. i innych.
