Taxon description
Heintze 1990:
Rzadszy od poprzedniego (Epione repandaria), równie pięknie ubarwiony gatunek, pojawia się w jednym pokoleniu. Motyle latają w VII i VIII, gąsienice żyją w V i VI. Żerują na osice, a wg innych źródeł również na wierzbie, leszczynie i brzozie. Poczwarki, podobnie jak u poprzedniego gatunku, przebywają w oprzędzie na ziemi. Zimują jaja. Samiczka motyla różni się od samca jaśniejszym ubarwieniem.
