Pospolity, szeroko rozmieszczony gatunek palearktyczny, występujący w całej Europie, wykazywany również z Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce rzadko znajdowany, notowany z nielicznych rozproszonych stanowisk. Występuje na terenach nizinnych i podgórskich oraz w górskich dolinach rzecznych. Postacie dorosłe i larwy żyją w gnijących, jeszcze nie przesuszonych grzybach licznych gatunków.
