Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w zachodniej i południowej Europie oraz lokalnie w południowej części Europy środkowej. W Polsce z całą pewnością nie stwierdzony; notowany tylko jeden raz przeszło sto lat temu z jednego stanowiska na Śląsku Dolnym, później już nigdzie tej wzmianki nie potwierdzono. Ten charakteryzujący się brakiem oczu chrząszcz jest bardzo rzadko spotykany z powodu skrytego sposobu życia. Znajdowano go w glebie próchnicznej, w gnijącym drewnie stykającym się z ziemią lub w niej zagrzebanym, pod kamieniami, w pryzmach kompostowych, między korzeniami i rozkładającymi się szczątkami roślinnymi.
