Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w górach, i okolicach podgórskich środkowej Europy, wschodniej Francji oraz północnych części Włoch i Bałkanu. W Polsce wykazany jedynie z pojedynczych stanowisk w pięciu krainach południowych. Występuje na pobrzeżach rzek i strumieni. Rzadko spotykany z powodu skrytego, podziemnego sposobu życia. Gatunek bardzo charakterystyczny przez słabą pigmentację ciała i częściową redukcję oczu. Żyje w norach wydr — Lutra lutra (L.) i karczownika ziemnowodnego — Arvicola terrestris (L.). Znajdowany najczęściej pod kamieniami i napływkami.
