Gatunek północnopalearktyczny, rozprzestrzeniony w Europie od Anglii i skrajnych prowincji północnych Fennoskandii aż do krajów w środkowej części kontynentu, notowany poza tym z Ameryki Północnej, W Polsce chrząszcz rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany, notowany z nielicznych stanowisk tylko w pięciu krainach. Bionomia słabo poznana. Postacie dojrzałe były poławiano w mieszkaniach, spichlerzach, młynach, stajniach i w innych pomieszczeniach dla zwierząt.
