Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w południowej i środkowej części Europy, na północ docierający do Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii i południowej Szwecji, wykazywany poza tym z Algierii, Syrii, Iranu, Buchary i Mongolii. Chrząszcze występują w Polsce na niżu i w niższych położeniach górskich. Jako rośliny żywicielskie podawane są nostrzyk biały — Melilotus albus Med., nostrzyk żółty — M. officinalis (L.) Lam. i nostrzyk wyniosły — M. altissimus Thuill. Larwy żerują głównie w części podstawowej łodygi, nie powodując wyrośli, drążą w rdzeniu chodniki długości 5-7 cm, w których może występować do pięciu larw. Wyląg postaci dojrzałych następuje w końcu sierpnia i na początku września. Po przezimowaniu w glebie chrząszcze ukazują się w maju i są poławiane zwykle do października.
