Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący południową i środkową część Europy, na północ sięgający po Wyspy Brytyjskie, Danię i południową Szwecję, na wschód docierający do Kaukazu i Iranu. W Polsce rzadko spotykany, notowany z nielicznych stanowisk, głównie w południowej części kraju. Występuje w butwiejącym drewnie pni i pieńków drzew liściastych, rzadziej iglastych, w starych budynkach drewnianych, gdzie powoduje niekiedy uszkodzenia belek, desek podłogowych i okładzin. Samica po przezimowaniu w komorach poczwarkowych składa jaja w czerwcu. Larwy w ciągu 5-6 tygodni drążą w drewnie chodniki, na końcu których budują komory poczwarkowe ze ścianami pokrytymi krzepnącą wydzieliną.
