Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący całą północną i środkową Europę oraz górskie obszary w południowej Europie. W Polsce rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany zarówno na terenach nizinnych, jak i górskich. Prowadzi ukryty sposób życia w podziemnych gniazdach i chodnikach królików, kretów, szczurów, chomików i susłów, niekiedy znajdowany w jaskiniach, wśród mchów i pod opadłym listowiem w zaroślach.
