Gatunek rozmieszczony w południowo-wschodniej Europie oraz w południowej części środkowej Europy, notowany również z Korsyki i Azji Mniejszej. Wszędzie lokalny i rzadki. Z uwagi na rozmieszczenie ogólne, występowanie na Pojezierzu Mazurskim oraz w Prusach Wschodnich wątpliwe. Dane ze Śląska wymagają potwierdzenia, gdyż opierają się na okazach znalezionych w napływkach. Zarówno larwy, jak i postacie dorosłe żyją pod korą jodły w chodnikach larw korników Pityokteines curvidens (Germar) i P. spinidens (Reitter), znajdowane były również w chodnikach larw kózek z rodzaju Rhagium Fabr. Z uwagi na sposób życia, rzadko i sporadycznie poławiany. Uważany za wroga korników i z tego powodu uznawany za chrząszcza pożytecznego.
