Europa i Syberia.
Gatunek anholocykliczny. Żyje na różnych świerkach: Picea excelsa (Lam.) Lk., Picea pungens Engelm., Picea Engelmanni Engelm. Wytwarza jednostronne wyrosła u nasady pędów rocznych. Szkodzi świerkom jedynie w parkach.
