Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1986c:
Rozsiedlony w niemal całej Palearktyce, w Europie od południowych wybrzeży Bałtyku i Morza Północnego aż do krajów śródziemnomorskich. W Polsce jest niezbyt często spotykany, znany tylko z siedmiu krain. Występuje głównie w gniazdach dzikich ptaków, zwłaszcza bocianów i dziuplaków, ale jest także notowany z ferm drobiu, gołębników i kurników. Żywi się piórami i odpadkami pochodzenia zwierzęcego. W naszych warunkach klimatycznych występuje jedno pokolenie. Przezimowuje postać dojrzała.
