Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1986c:

Szeroko rozprzestrzeniony niemal na całej kuli ziemskiej (nie znany dotąd z Obszaru Orientalnego), w Europie sięgający na północ po najbardziej południowe rejony Fennoskandii. W Polsce, prócz wyższych partii górskich, występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze, nie jest jednak jeszcze notowany z niektórych krain. Na swobodzie występuje na terenach nizinnych i w niższych położeniach górskich, wyżej w górach tylko jako synantrop. Zasiedla głównie suche tereny otwarte, gdzie żeruje na padlinie, kościach i ekskrementach.
