Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1981:
Gatunek występujący w południowej części północnej Europy oraz w środkowej Europie, na południe docierający do środkowej Francji, północnych Włoch, Bośni i Siedmiogrodu. W Polsce rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany, znany na ogół z pojedynczych stanowisk, tylko na Śląsku poławiany w liczniejszych miejscowościach. Występuje lokalnie na terenach nizinnych i w niższych położeniach na podgórzach (do około 400 m n.p.m.). Żyje w gniazdach ptaków, zwłaszcza zasiedlających dziuple drzew, niekiedy również w gniazdach nadrzewnych i naziemnych — także w skrzynkach lęgowych. W zimie spotykany w murszu drzew, pod obluźnioną korą, wśród mchów na pniach i pieńkach oraz pod opadłym listowiem przy podstawie pni.
