Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1981:
Gatunek rozmieszczony prawie w całej Europie z wyjątkiem skrajnych części północnych oraz Półwyspu Iberyjskiego. W Polsce, chociaż brak jeszcze udokumentowanych danych z wielu krain, prawdopodobnie występuje na całym obszarze oprócz wyższych partii górskich. Zamieszkuje tereny nizinne i górskie, gdzie dociera do strefy subalpejskiej. Występuje w gniazdach ptaków zasiedlających dziuple drzew, zwłaszcza w gniazdach sów i dzięciołów, spotykany również w gniazdach wron i srok oraz w skrzynkach lęgowych. Niekiedy znajdowany w gniazdach myszy w dziuplach przy podstawie pni, jak również wśród mchów i opadłego listowia koło starych drzew.
