Gatunek rozsiedlony głównie w południowo-zachodniej części Europy, na wschód docierający do Półwyspu Bałkańskiego i Podola, a na północ do Słowacji i Polski, skąd znany jest jedynie z Kazimierza nad Wisłą. O występowaniu w tym rejonie wątpi V. Balthasar (1967). Chrząszcz kserotermofilny, pojawiający się późną wiosną i latem w ekskrementach bydlęcych i końskich.
