Gatunek rozpowszechniony niemal w całej Europie z wyjątkiem jej skrajnych części północnych, wykazywany ponadto z Kaukazu. W Polsce prawdopodobnie występuje na całym obszarze, aczkolwiek nie znany jeszcze z wielu krain. Występuje głównie w lasach na wilgotnych miejscach pod opadłymi liśćmi, wśród mchów, na przegrzybiałych gałęziach, pniach i pieńkach, niekiedy również w gniazdach mrówek Formica rufa L., Formica, polyctena Foerster i Lasius fuliginosus (Latr.).
