Taxon description
Heintze 1990:
Pospolity ten motyl występuje od VIII do XI. Licznie spotykane na wielu gatunkach drzew liściastych młode gąsienice żerują początkowo w baziach wierzb, topoli, kwiatach i nasionach wiązów, brzóz, buków, wiosennych pędach dębów, tarnin i innych. Średniej wielkości i dorosłe jedzą liście wielu gatunków roślin zielnych (babka, mniszek, jasnota itp.). Rysunek na stronie grzbietowej jest dla gąsienic tego motyla bardzo charakterystyczny: mimo pewnej zmienności w ich ubarwieniu stanowi element łatwego oznaczenia gatunku. Gąsienice oprzędy budują na ziemi lub płytko w ziemi. Zimują jaja.
