Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1983:
Pospolity gatunek, szeroko rozpowszechniony prawie w całej Palearktyce, w Fennoskandii docierający do około 65° szer. geograf.; zawleczony także do Kanady i wschodnich części Stanów Zjednoczonych Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce znany od Bałtyku aż po Tatry; jest najczęściej spotykanym u nas gatunkiem omawianego rodzaju. Zasiedla zarówno tereny nizinne, jak i górzyste docierając do strefy alpejskiej. Występuje w ciągu całego roku we wszelkiego rodzaju ekskrementach, nawozie, kompostach oraz wśród rozkładających się szczątków roślinnych. Wielokrotnie notowany jako szkodnik w uprawach pieczarek.
