Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący zachodnią i środkową część Europy, notowany poza tym z Danii, Szwecji, Azji Mniejszej i Armenii. W Polsce rozsiedlony od Bałtyku po południowe obszary górzyste, gdzie dociera do strefy subalpejskiej, nie jest jednak jeszcze znany z niektórych krain. Występuje w środowiskach wilgotnych na szczawiu zwyczajnym — Rumex acetosa L. oraz suchych, piaszczystych glebach na szczawiu polnym — R. acetosella L., a w lasach i łąkach górskich na szczawiu górskim — R. arifolius All. Larwy żerują w dolnej części łodygi, w szyi korzeniowej i korzeniach, nie wywołując wyrośli.
