Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w niemal całej Europie (prócz jej części południowych) oraz na Syberii az po Bajkał, w Fennoskandii docierający do najdalszych krańców północnych. W Polsce notowany głównie z południowej części kraju — znajdowany na ogół rzadko i sporadycznie, przeważnie pojedynczo, niekiedy tylko na miejscach rozrodu poławiany liczniej. Zasiedla zimne i wilgotne miejsca na terenach otwartych i leśnych. Chrząszcze pojawiają się od połowy kwietnia i przeżywają do czerwca, w górach do lipca. Jest poławiany na trawach i roślinach zielnych na bagnach, torfowiskach, na skrajach lasu, polanach śródleśnych, pobrzeżach rowów, kałuż, stawów i małych cieków wodnych. Larwa żyje w wilgotnej glebie pokrytej roślinnością trawiastą.
