Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony głównie w środkowej i północnej części Europy, na wschód docierający do Ałtaju. W Polsce występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze, brak jednak jeszcze udokumentowanych danych z wielu krain. Poławiany przeważnie w ściółce lasów iglastych, rzadziej w gniazdach mrówek.
