Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1981:
Gatunek znany głównie z północnej części Europy (w Fennoskandii sięga daleko poza koło podbiegunowe), wykazywany również ze środkowej części kontynentu, zwłaszcza z obszarów górskich (w Alpach sięga do około 2000 m n.p.m.). Na terenach nizinnych bardzo rzadko spotykany. Notowany też z Włoch i Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce chrząszcz mało znany, wykazany tylko ogólnikowo ze Śląska i Prus oraz z trzech krain bez wyszczególnienia stanowisk, tak więc występowanie omawianego gatunku na tych obszarach wymaga dalszych badań. Występuje przeważnie w lasach podgórskich i górskich pod różnego rodzaju gnijącymi substancjami, niekiedy znajdowany w gniazdach świstaków.
