Gatunek europejski, notowany z Francji, Szwajcarii, Belgii, Holandii, Niemiec, Polski, Czech, Słowacji, Austrii, Węgier, byłej Jugosławii, Rumunii i Ukrainy. W Polsce mało znany, gdyż od przeszło stu lat uważany za synonim B. elongatulus (Boh.) i dopiero L. Dieckmann (1968) wykazał jego odrębność. Bionomia tego chrząszcza jest poznana fragmentarycznie. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano w okresie wegetacyjnym na klonie zwyczajnym — Acer platanoides L. i jaworze — A. pseudoplatanus L.; ponadto wysiano je ze ściółki w lesie łęgowym nad Popradem (Knutelski, Grzęda i Mazur 1986).
