Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony od Wysp Brytyjskich i skrajnych prowincji północnych Fennoskandii przez całą Europę środkową aż do środkowych części Hiszpanii i Włoch, północnej części Półwyspu Bałkańskiego i Ukraińskiej SRR, notowany również z Kaukazu i Syberii. Chrząszcz dość pospolity w całej Polsce, chociaż z wielu okolic dotychczas nie wykazany. Zasiedla zarówno tereny nizinne, jak i górzyste, gdzie dociera do strefy alpejskiej. Żeruje na mchach naziemnych.
