Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1985:
Mało znany gatunek górski, notowany z Alp, Średniogórza Niemieckiego, Czechosłowacji, Polski, Austrii, Węgier i Rumunii. W Polsce znany z nielicznych rozproszonych stanowisk w południowej części kraju, przy czym z niektórych krain znany tylko na podstawie znalezisk sprzed przeszło stu lat. Zasiedla tereny górzyste do wysokości około 2300 m n.p.m. Poławiany od maja do sierpnia, zwłaszcza w czerwcu i lipcu.
Kuśka 1995:
Biologia gatunku nie znana, tylko Verhoeff (1923) opisał larwę.
Gatunek górski, środkowoeuropejski, stanowiska w Górach Świętokrzyskich i w Ojcowie, z pewnością reliktowe (Kuśka 1989). W górach Europy Zachodniej (Szwajcaria, Austria, Pireneje) występuje bliźniaczy gatunek Cantharis gemina Dahlgren, niewiele większy od C. pagana, a różniący się zasadniczo tylko budową aparatu kopulacyjnego (Dahlgren 1974), wspomniany tu ze względu na możliwość jego odkrycia w Polsce.
W związku z zsynominizowaniem C. pagana z C. fibulata i C. albomarginata (Wittmer 1974), opisaniem C. gemina Dahlgren, rozsiedlenie C. pagana wymaga weryfikacji na całym terenie jego występowania.
