Bardzo rzadko spotykany gatunek europejski, notowany z południowej, środkowej i wschodniej części kontynentu oraz Danii i południowej Szwecji. W Polsce znany tylko z dwu stanowisk południowych. Chrząszcze spotykane są głównie w maju i czerwcu na różnych krzewach i drzewach. Larwy żerują początkowo w różnych gatunkach grzybów należących do jądrzaków wyższych (Pyrenomycetes) z klasy workowców (Ascomycetes), pasożytujących na różnych drzewach i krzewach. W późniejszym okresie rozwój larw przebiega w zbutwiałych gałązkach.
