Taxon description
Heintze 1990:
Czas pojawu motyla VI i VII. Gąsienice żerują pojedynczo na piołunie, wg innych źródeł również na bylicy pospolitej. Spotkać je można w końcu lata i jesienią dość rzadko na przydrożach, ugorach i miedzach. Bardzo podobne do gąsienic kapturnicy srebrówki (C. argentea Hufn.) — różnice w kształcie linii grzbietowej pokazuje rys. poniżej. Tak samo jak one mają zmienne ubarwienie. Zaniepokojone reagują gwałtownie: biją głową o boki i spadają na ziemię zwinięte w kłębek. Zimują poczwarki, zamknięte w mocnych, filcowatych oprzędach, ukrytych płytko w ziemi, podobnie jak u wszystkich przedstawicieli rodzaju kapturnic. Poczwarki niekiedy zimują dwa lub więcej razy.
