Gatunek rozmieszczony od Anglii, Szkocji, środkowej Skandynawii i półwyspu Kola przez całą środkową część Europy aż do Francji i Siedmiogrodu. Występuje zarówno na obszarach nizinnych, jak i górzystych, do wysokości około 1000 m n.p.m. W Polsce rzadko spotykany i notowany z nielicznych stanowisk. Spotykany na wilgotnych łąkach, niskich torfowiskach, w lasach mieszanych w ściółce, pod skoszonymi trawami, w gnijących grzybach — zwłaszcza z rodzaju żagiew — Polyporus (Mich.) Fr.
