Taxon description
Pospolity ten motyl lata w V i VI. Gąsienice żerują w VIII i IX na wielu niskich roślinach i krzewach jak: malina, jeżyna, bodziszek, nawłoć, przytulia, dziurawiec, wierzba i inne. Cechą charakterystyczną gatunku jest rysunek grzbietowej strony ciała oraz wielka zmienność w ubarwieniu gąsienic. Gąsienice ubarwione kontrastowo (zielone z czarnym rysunkiem) łatwe są do odróżnienia również i z bocznej strony ciała, natomiast gąsienice zielonożółte i brązowozielone mają często rysunek niewyraźny i z trudnością dają się oznaczyć. Poczwarki przebywają zimę w oprzędach na ziemi.
