Gatunek europejski, rozmieszczony od Wysp Brytyjskich i południowej Fennoskandii aż do Pirenejów, północnych części Włoch i Półwyspu Bałkańskiego, notowany nadto z Kaukazu. W Polsce chrząszcz rzadko spotykany. Występuje na terenach nizinnych, podgórskich i w górskich dolinach rzecznych. Znajdowany w grzybach wielu gatunków, najczęściej w monetce szerokoblaszkowej — Oudemansiella platyphylla (Pers.) Fr.
