Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1985:
Gatunek rozmieszczony w południowej i środkowej części Europy oraz w południowej części Fennoskandii, wykazywany również z Kaukazu i Syberii. W Polsce rozpowszechniony na całym obszarze, częściej notowany z południowej i zachodniej części kraju. W górach wzdłuż dolin przekracza górną granicę lasu. Larwy żyją w powierzchniowej warstwie wilgotnych gleb łąk, gruntów ornych, użytków zielonych, parków i ogrodów oraz w leśnych glebach na pobrzeżach lasów, na porębach i polanach śródleśnych. Żerują wśród korzeni roślin, z tego też powodu w różnych rejonach są uważane za szkodniki. Cykl rozwojowy 4-letni. Przepoczwarczenie następuje w maju-czerwcu w glebie na głębokości 2-8 cm. Postacie dojrzałe pojawiają się w drugiej połowie maja lub na początku czerwca i żyją do lipca-sierpnia; są poławiane zwykle na trawach i niskich roślinach.
