Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1976:
Pospolity gatunek europejsko-syberyjski, znany również z Azji Mniejszej i Zakaukazia. W Europie występuje na terenach otwartych i leśnych, zarówno na obszarach nizinnych jak i górskich. Zamieszkuje wody stojące różnych rodzajów jak stawki, bajorka, rowy, rozlewiska, turzycowe i sfagnowe torfowiska. Spotykany głównie w, zbiornikach o mulistym lub torfiastym dnie oraz porośniętych roślinnością błotną lub wodną. Rzadko łowiony w wodach płynących lub w dużych zbiornikach wodnych.
