Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony prawie w całej Europie, docierający w Szwecji do skrajnych obszarów północnych; notowany ponadto z Syberii i Afryki Północnej. W Polsce występuje na całym obszarze z wyjątkiem wyższych partii górskich. Zamieszkuje łąki, pastwiska, ugory, miedze, miejsca ruderalne i pobrzeża lasu, zwłaszcza na terenach suchych. Jako rośliny żywicielskie w piśmiennictwie były podawane różne gatunki z rodziny goździkowatych (Caryophyllaceae), jak łyszczec polny — Gypsophila muralis L., firletka poszarpana — Lychnis flos-cuculi L., wyżpin jagodowy — Cucubalus baccifer L., lepnica rozdęta — Silene inflata (Salisb.) Sm., sporek polny — Spergula arvensis L., muchotrzew polny — Spergularia rubra (L.) Presl, goździk kartuzek — Dianthus carthusianojrum L. i goździk kropkowany — D. deltoides L. Pojaw postaci dojrzałych jest rozciągnięty w czasie — chrząszcze poławiano od kwietnia do końca września. Larwy przepoczwarczają się w białym lub żółtym kokonie. Omawiany gatunek wyrządza niekiedy szkody w uprawach goździków, zwłaszcza w lipcu i sierpniu.
