Pospolity, szeroko rozmieszczony gatunek europejsko-syberyjski, w Fennoskandii sięgający daleko poza koło podbiegunowe. Występuje w stałych lub późno wysychających zbiornikach wodnych. Spotykany głównie wśród roślin wodnych porastających jeziora, stawy, starorzecza, łachy rzeczne i rowy.
