Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony głównie w środkowej i południowej Europie, na zachód sięgający do Francji, notowany nadto z południowej Anglii, Szwecji i Kaukazu. W Polsce notowany głównie z południowej części kraju, na północnym obszarze znany tylko z jednego nadmorskiego stanowiska. Znajdowany przeważnie w lasach bukowych w sąsiedztwie gniazd i chodników kretów i myszy, pod opadłym listowiem, wśród mchów, w murszu starych pni i pniaków, a także na polach pod słomą, ekskrementami i kamieniami.
