Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony od Wysp Brytyjskich i południowych obszarów Fennoskandii przez środkową część Europy po północne Włochy, zawleczony do Ameryki Północnej, Australii i Nowej Zelandii. W Europie Środkowej rozmnaża się partenogenetycznie. W Polsce notowany z ośmiu krain, głównie w zachodniej części kraju. Zasiedla na ogół tereny otwarte; często poławiano go w parkach i ogrodach miejskich, na polach, pobrzeżach lasu i suchych zboczach. Postacie dojrzałe są aktywne o zmroku i nocą, w ciągu dnia kryją się pod kamieniami, opadłym listowiem, wśród mchów i w detrytusie. Żerują na pączkach liściowych, młodych pędach i liściach drzew i krzewów, również owocowych i roślin ozdobnych; powodują niekiedy duże szkody na plantacjach winorośli, malin i truskawek. M. Mazur* zbierał liczne okazy w Krakowie na rdeście sachalińskim — Polygonum sachalinense Schm. Samice pokolenia jesiennego, zimujące, składają jaja do gleby wczesną wiosną, samice pokolenia wiosennego — w czerwcu-lipcu. Jedna samica może złożyć od kilkadziesięciu do kilkuset jaj. Larwy żerują na korzeniach.
