Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 2000:

Mało znany gatunek górski, wykazywany dotychczas z austriackich i niemieckich Alp Wschodnich, gdzie nie jest szczególnie rzadkim chrząszczem. Bardzo podobny do górskiego Proteinus crenulatus Pand. i dlatego bywa przeoczony. W Polsce notowany z jednego stanowiska na podstawie ośmiu osobników złowionych w butwiejącej hubie. Występuje na łąkach górskich, w lasach mieszanych i liściastych, zwłaszcza w buczynach. Poławiany w ściółce leśnej, gnijących grzybach, kompostach, nawozie, gnijących szczątkach roślinnych, przy wyciekającym soku z pni drzew.
