Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1980:

Gatunek rozmieszczony głównie w zachodniej i środkowej Europie, notowany również z Siedmiogrodu, Banatu i Kaukazu. Wszędzie bardzo rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadko znajdowany. Z Sudetów Zachodnich wykazywany na podstawie jednego okazu znalezionego przed przeszło stu laty. Jeszcze starsza jest wzmianka o występowaniu w Sudetach Wschodnich. Z uwagi na brak w zbiorach okazów dowodowych, zasiedlenie Sudetów winno być potwierdzone nowymi badaniami. Żyje w starych, dziuplastych drzewach liściastych, zwłaszcza zasiedlonych przez gnieżdżące się ptaki. Znajdowany poza tym w murszu i gnijącym drewnie, w chodniku gąsienicy trociniarki (Cossus cossus L.) drążącej pień topoli oraz w gnieździe jaskółki brzegówki.
