Gatunek zamieszkujący głównie pogórza i niższe położenia górskie w środkowej i południowo-wschodniej części Europy. Wszędzie jest spotykany bardzo rzadko na rozproszonych stanowiskach. W Polsce jest to chrząszcz mało znany i bardzo rzadko znajdowany, notowany tylko z dwóch południowych krain. Pojaw postaci dojrzałych rozpoczyna się około połowy czerwca i trwa do lipca-sierpnia. Spotykano je na drzewach lęgowych, na drewnie sągowym oraz na kwiatach. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w suchych pniach i gałęziach, głównie klonu polnego — Acer campestre L. i jaworu — Acer pseudoplatanus L., rzadziej wierzby iwy — Salix caprea L., olsz — Alnus Mill. i jesionów — Fraxinus L. Pełny cykl rozwojowy trwa dwa lata.
