Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1995:
Ojczyzną tego ryjkowca jest Ameryka Południowa, skąd wraz ze swoją rośliną żywicielska — kukurydzą został rozpowszechniony na całej kuli ziemskiej. W Polsce zawleczony do kilku miast, ale nie zaaklimatyzowany.
