Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1986b:
Gatunek rozsiedlony w południowej i środkowej części Europy, docierający na zachód do Francji, wykazywany również z Wysp Kanaryjskich, Madery i Algierii. W Polsce chrząszcz bardzo rzadko spotykany, notowany z nielicznych stanowisk tylko w dwa krainach. Żyje na pokrytym pleśnią, zmurszałym drewnie drzew liściastych, pod odstającą przegrzybiałą korą, w dziuplastych pniach, zasiedlonych przez mrówki Lasius brunneus (Latr.). Znajdowano go niekiedy w piwnicach na pleśniejących beczkach z winem.
