Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1987:
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony prawie na całej kuli ziemskiej prócz obszarów tropikalnych, w Europie występuje głównie w południowej i środkowej części kontynentu oraz lokalnie w południowej części Europy Północnej. W Polsce znany z nielicznych rozproszonych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju. Występuje w magazynach zbożowych, młynach, stajniach, gołębnikach, kurnikach, fermach hodowlanych, gdzie odżywia się mąką i innymi przetworami zbożowymi. Na swobodzie spotykany w zmurszałym drewnie drzew dziuplastych, pod odstającą korą, wśród mchów na starych drzewach i w gniazdach ptaków.
