Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1983:
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w prawie całej Europie (prócz skrajnych części północnych Fennoskandii oraz południowych części Półwyspu Iberyjskiego i Apenińskiego), wykazywany ponadto z Azji Mniejszej i Iranu. W Polsce pospolity i szeroko rozprzestrzeniony. Występuje głównie na niżu i na podgórzach, zarówno na terenach otwartych, jak i leśnych. Odżywia się głównie ekskrementami koni i krów. Chrząszcz buduje na głębokość około 10 cm zamknięte ziemią chodniki, w których gromadzi materiał pokarmowy.
