Gatunek zasiedlający południową i środkową część Europy; wykazywany poza tym z Anglii i zachodniego Kazachstanu. W Polsce jest chrząszczem rzadko spotykanym, notowanym z nielicznych stanowisk tylko w czterech krainach. Występuje na wilgotnych pastwiskach, w zaroślach i rowach oraz w środowiskach ruderalnych. Larwa żeruje w podstawie łodygi i w korzeniach płesznika czerwonkowego — Pulicaria dysenterica (L.) Bernh.
